CONSERVATION OF THE AMNION IN HONEY
J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2005, 1, pp.8-12.
Chair of Ophthalmology, Tbilisi State Medical University, Georgia
Treatment of visual impairment caused by the diseases of the ocular fundus is still an actual problem of ophthalmology. Nowadays, different methods of treatment are used: laser photocoagulation, photodynamic therapy, transpupillary thermotherapy and radiation treatment, vitamins, different biostimulators, sub-Tenon and suprachoroidal implantation of various synthetic and biological preparations etc.
We propose a new method of treatment: implantation of meliterized amniotic membrane into the sub-Tenon capsule.
The aim of our investigation was to study the morphologic structure of the amniotic membrane stored in 100 % bee honey during different periods of conservation (3, 5 and 7 months).
Proceeding from the results, we can state that honey is an ideal, safe product for the conservation of the amniotic membrane, and that meliterized amniotic membrane maintains its main histomorphologic features, and it can be used for transplantation.
ESTIMATION OF THE RESULTES OF MELLITERED SKIN TRANSPLANTATION
J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2005, 1, pp.12-15.
A.Natishvili Institute of Experimental Morphlogy Georgian AS, Tbilisi, Georgia
We morphologically investigated the results of transplantation of rat skin grafts preserved at 4°C in natural honey per 3,7,14,30 days. Graft attraction from host tissues before the 14th day after transplantation was considered to be a false healing, after this time – to be the true one. 3-7 day-old grafts uptake rate is normal. The uptake of skin grafts preserved per 14 days was false in 25%.On the 30th day of preservation healing didn’t occur.
Based on these results, we can conclude that skin grafts preserved in natural honey may be used for transplantation before the 14-17th days of conservation. After this time, grafts can be used as a temporary biological cover, because they can stimulate normal reepithelization in skin defects.

THE CONSTRUCTION OF LINGUAL LYMPH VESSELS AND ITS AGE-RELATED CHANGES
J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2005, 1, pp.15-17.
Georgian State Medical Academy, Pathology Department of the Institute of Cardiology, Tbilisi
Basing on the comparison of microanatomical and micrometrical researches, it’s possible to conclude that with aging the lymphatic capillary network of the tongue becomes looser and the diameter of the capillaries of all sizes is reduced (narrowed). That narrowing starts from the age of 60, and network loosening – from the beginning of senility.

ELUTING STENTS WITH ANTIRESTENOSIS COVERS – A NEW DIRECTION IN INTERVENTIONAL CARDIOLOGY
J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2005, 1, pp.24-27.
Medical Institute “Tbilisi”, Georgia; San-ko Medical Centre, Gaziantep, Turkey
Struggle against the development of the neo-intima is one of the most actual problems for interventional cardiology. Eluting Stents with anti-neointima curative covers having antiproliferative effects on the intima are very important for avoiding the occurrence of restenosis. Preparations of three different groups - Paclitaxe (Taxol), Rapamicin (Sirolymus) and Everolymus - used as stent covers actually reduce the risk of the development of the neo-intima inside the stent and the occurrence of restenosis.
The obtained results indicate that in future, after the doses of covering preparations, the density of the cover and the speed of their separation becomes more precise, and the outcome will certainly be better.

COMBINATION OF ALOPECIA AREATA AND OTHER AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES
J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2005, 1, pp.29-32.
Scientific-Research Institute of Dermatology and Venereology, Chair of Internal Diseases, Medical Faculty of Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Georgia
The aim of the study was to ascertain the reliability of the combination of alopecia and other autoimmune diseases (systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic scleroderma, myasthenia gravis, psoriasis, autoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura). These diseases were diagnosed in leading medical centers of Georgia. Selection of patients was held via the method of simple random sampling (randomization): reliability was being defined by the x²_test. In 200 persons of the control group (ambulatory reception of a surgical profile) alopecia areata was found in one; out of 200 diseased by myasthenia - in 4; out of the diseased by lupus erythematosus and systemic scleroderma (200 patients) correspondingly – in 3 and 2; among the diseased by psoriasis – one person, and among 100 diseased by autoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura – also one. Therefore, during the studied autoimmune diseases alopecia areata is found more frequently than in the control group, but the x²_test didn’t confirm the presence of a reliable difference in any of these cases.

VASCULARIZED FLAP PREFABRICATION AND BIOCOMPATIBLE MATERIALS IN TISSUE BIOENGINEERING
J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2005, 1, pp.35-38.
Georgian Medical Academy, Chair of Aesthetic and Plastic-Reconstructive Surgery, Tbilisi
Visualization increase using the method of prefabrication is a new way in vascularized flap surgery.
Purposes of the research: 1) creation of a vascularized flap; 2) ascertain of possibilities, effectiveness, indications, contraindications and expediency of prefabrication methods; 3) usage of biocompatible materials for prefabrication.
The term “prefabrication”, in its broad sense, implies reshaping, remodeling or artificial creating a vascularized flap. Silicone and carbon materials are mostly used as biocompatible materials. If vascular growth occurs in the artificial implant, compound flaps are created, which subsequently are used for the reconstruction of cutaneous and osteocutaneous defects.
Experiments have been made on white laboratory rats. We have some experimental models where we create arteriovenous vascularized flaps. During vascularized flap prefabrication, we made caudal artery and vain transposition by 180o, subcutaneously in rat back area. We made the cutaneous and osteocutaneous flap models. For results we used micro-angiographic, morphological and immunohistochemical analyses.
Obtained morphological results: an increase in neoangiogenesis and vascularization in parallel to prefabrication.
The use of this method assumes the possibility of an increase in vascularization of flaps, creation of new donor zones for vascularized flaps, and therefore, an improvement in the results of reconstructive-plastic operation.
CLINICAL-EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF CROSS-MODAL NEUROPLASTICITY
J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2005, 1, pp.38-40.
Department of Ophthalmology, Tbilisi State Medical University, Georgia
The latest data testify a sufficient amount of information (mostly electrophysiological) concerning neuroplastic properties of the brain, but we don’t know much about biological meaning of this phenomenon, and practically nothing – about the mechanisms of its development. Here is given brief information concerning clinical and experimental evidences of cross-modal neuroplasticity during early blindness.

AGE PECULIARITIES OFDISTRIBUTION DENSITY OF LYMPHOID NODES IN THE WALLS OF THE HUMAN ESOPHAGUS
J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2005, 1, pp. 54-57.
Chair of Human Anatomy, Azerbaijan Medical University, Baku
Lymphoid nodes were studied in total preparations of the human esophagus (117 corpses of individuals of various ages). The density of distribution of lymphoid nodes implies the quantity of these anatomic formations corresponding to the area of 1sm2 of the esophagus wall.
It is ascertained that distribution density of the lymphoid nodes significantly changes during postnatal ontogenesis.

MORPHOMETRICAL INVESTIGATION OF SKIN BURN WOUND HEALING WITH “PHAGOBIODERM” IN THE EXPERIMENT
J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2005, 1, pp. 60-63.
A.Natishvili Institute of Experimental Morphology, Georgian AS, Tbilisi, Georgia
The role of artificial skin substitutes in treatment of burn wound is constantly evolving. The purposes of this study are, first, to examine “Phagobioderm” effects on the healing of skin burns, and second, to compare that with other artificial skin substitutes (polymer with silver sulphadiazine). Materials were examinated in three groups by morphometry to estimate the level of angiogenesis and mast cells at various periods. The results of this study have shown the advantage of “Phagobioderm” in comparison to other specimens (in our case - silver sulphadiazine).

THE ACTION OF PHENOWINE AND PLAFERON-LB ON RAUSCHER VIRUS REPRODUCTION AND IMMUNE INDICES IN WHITE MICE
J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2005, 1, pp. 63-65.
Institute of Medical Biotechnology of the Georgian Academy of Sciences, Tbilisi, Georgia
Experimental viral Rauscher leukemia in BALB/c mice is very convenient model for study of cure and prophylactic properties of plaferon and phenowine (preparations possessing imuno-modulating, antioxydant and apoptos-enhancing effects). Plaferontherapy was followed by twofold increase of time of survival of animals (death in control group – on 21-th day of infection). However, the next development of leukemia occured in the same way as in control and in 68% ended with death of mice. Hence, the inhibition of leukosigenic process in early stages of infection does not mean fool neutralization of virus reproduction. A comparative immunological analysis allows us to suppose that exactly the activation of the immune factors is basic in the mechanism of the protective action of plaferon and phenowine.
