GRAPHICAL METHODS FOR DETERMINING PSYCHOMETRIC INDICATORS IN 40-54-YEAR-OLD GEORGIAN WOMEN ACCORDING TO INTELLECT AND TYPES OF MOOD

J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2009, 2, pp. 9-17.

Department of Normal Human Anatomy, Tbilisi State Medical University, Georgia

We have stated the indicators of intellect (logical, verbal, dynamical) in 40-54-year-old Georgian women for whom we used schemes and tests approved in England and USA. To determine mood types, we used a classic research method of fixed mood by D. Uznadze.

On the ground of the received data we made the diagrams according to the age groups:

In the age group of 40-44-year-old women prevailed:

Intellect - logical 60.00%; verbal 20.00%; mathematical 20.00% (diagrams N1, 2). Mood - excitability 46.67%; static nature 53.33%; dynamical nature 46.67% (diagrams N3, 4).

In the age group of 45-49-year-old women prevailed:

Intellect - logical 53.33%; verbal 40.00%; mathematical 40.00% (diagrams N5, 6) Mood - excitability 60.00%; static nature 40.00%; dynamical nature 60.00% (diagrams N7, 8).

In the age group of 50-54-year-old women:

Intellect - logical 60.00%; verbal 48.00%; mathematical 56.00% (diagrams N9, 10). Mood - excitability 48.09%; static nature 52.00%; dynamical nature 48.00% (diagrams N11, 12).

Thus, according to our researches, it was established that 40-54-year-old Georgian women have average logical and verbal intellect, constant-stable, settled-dynamical, averagely excitable, conflict-static mood, constitutional types.

Lung cancer in countrymen of Azerbaijan

J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2009, 2, pp. 21-26.

National Centre of Oncology of the Ministry of Health, Azerbaijan, Baku

The case histories of 876 patients, who were observed and treated at the National Center of Oncology of Azerbaijan Republic and city oncological dispensary during the period of 1995-2003, were analyzed with the purpose to investigate the peculiarity of lung cancer among countrymen. The majority of these patients belonged to the population of the 2nd region (Kura’s lowland). The correlation between men and women was about 11/1. In most country patients (73.83%) lung cancer was diagnosed at late stages of neoplastic process (stage III and IV). It was revealed that independently of age gradation, lung cancer develops similarly in men and women resident in the countryside. The majority of country patients were smokers, and besides, they were also drinkers that could be the risk factor for lung cancer. In all regions of Republic the most common type was squamous cell carcinoma.

A Study of the influence of natural zeolites on

primary cell cultures

J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2009, 2, pp. 29-32.

Institute of Medical Biotechnology, Tbilisi State Medical University, Georgia

A specially processed sterile suspension of zeolites of 10% concentration caused cell destruction in the primary culture of chicken fibroblasts in 3-6 hours. If zeolite concentration did not exceed 5%, cell destruction did not occur within 24 hours (the entire term of observation).

Electron microscopy showed that zeolites were accumulated basically in the intercellular space and intracellular vacuoles. Zeolites promoted the strengthening of phagocytosis; caused an increase in the quantity of phagosomes and lysosomes i.e. raised the functional activity of cells.

ACTION OF EXTRACT OF MORUS ALBA ON THE PATHOLOGICAL PROCESS

OF DIABETES MELLITUS MODELING WITH ALLOXANE

J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2009, 2, pp. 32-38.

Azerbaijan Medical University, Baku

In this investigation have shown resulting of action of  Morus alba on the carbon and lipid metabolism, lipid peroxidation, biochemical results of functional condition of liver and kidneys. Placebocontrolling research have shown that studies preparation acts on metabolic disturbances and have hypoglycemic, hypolipidemic, and antioxidant effects.

Decrease of blood sugar is equal to the amount of concentration of free fatty acids, and probably that extract of Morus alba increased regeneration of â-cells, and have insulinsensibility action for residual insulin.

Decrease of  amount of common cholesterol, triglycerides, lipoprotein with low density, and increase amount of lipoproteins with high density, shown that this drug have antiaterogenic action.

Reduction of primary and secondary products of lipid peroxidation – is basic factor of antidiabetic action of our drug, so decreased tolerance of insulin receptors to insulin action.

This preparation changed concentration of creatinin, urine acid and common protein in the blood.

The drug changed metabolic and enzymological properties of liver disturbances and decreased amount of common bilirubin, alanintransferase, aspartataminotransferase, and glutamintransferase.

Spectrum of cliniCAL-pathogenETic MANIFESTATIONS of inflammatory diseases OF parodontium IN patients WITH bruCelloSis

J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2009, 2, pp. 38-42.

Department of Therapeutic Stomatology, Azerbaijan Medical University, Baku

To accomplish the intended purpose, we have studied the basic attributes of the inflammatory process and the spectrum of clinical-pathogenetic manifestations (color, dolor, tumor, rubor, tunetionalsa) in 207 patients with brucellosis and inflammatory diseases of the parodontium. Besides, we studied the classic symptoms of acute and chronic inflammatory diseases of the parodontium (especially in combination with brucellosis); the wide spectrum of clinical-pathogenetic manifestations is inherent. However, the expressiveness of the registered manifestations has specific features. In whole, it is possible to ascertain that clinical-pathogenetic manifestations of inflammatory diseases of the parodontium have nowadays a “softer” character. Brucellosis, especially its chronic stage, noticeably strengthens these clinical-pathogenetic manifestations.

gunshot injuiries

J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2009, 2, pp. 48-52.

Azerbaijan Medical University, Military-medical faculty, Department of Surgery, Baku

The article is based on authors’ personal experiences. Characteristics and prevalence of postoperative complications of the intestines’ fire-arm injuiries, surgical re-operations and their results were analysed in this article. Summarizing materials of the research we can come to a conclusion - systematizing surgical re-operations and determination their optimum size must be done only in the cases of loss of intestinal wall integrity. During growth of complications surgical re-interventions must be minimum sized, must totally remove the source of the complications and prevent their recurrence.

On the antibioticoresistancy of the E. coli strains isolated from the children with acute intestinal infections

J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2009, 2, pp. 52-56.

Tbilisi State Medical University, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Georgia

The spectrum of sensitivity of 157 E. coli strains isolated from children admitted to Tbilisi hospitals in 2004-2006 to 23 antibiotics has been studied by the agar dilution method, which established an increase in the pathogen’s drug resistance and the emergence of multidrug-resistant strains (33,1%). It has been found that the drug resistance of the pathogen to nalidixic acid and aminoglycosides (gentamicin and tobramicin in particular) increases and its high sensitivity only to carbopenems, some ftuoroquinolones, aminopenicillins and third-fourth generation cephalosporins preserves. Further evolution of drug resistance in this direction may lead to the formation of hospital strains among E. coli ones and alter an epidemiological process and the clinical course of the disease.

Monitoring of the patient condition with Diabetes

Mellitus Type 2

J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2009, 2, pp. 58-61.

The Azerbaijan Medical University, Baku

It has  been proven that one of the main causes of development of chronic complication in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) type 2 is glycosylated hemoglobin, dislipidemia, high blood pressure and increase in body weight. To assess the patients with DM type 2 we created and used complex indication (index of clinical-metabolic status [IKMS]), which includes the above mentioned data. The aim of study was to determine whether this index would express the difference in clinical- metabolic status of patients during therapy directed to normalization of metabolic data.  We assessed  glycosylated hemoglobin, blood pressure, lipid profile, and body index in 28 females and 42 males with DM type 2. We established IKMS in all patients before and after treatment. The results in females before treatment was 53.81 and after treatment- 47.81, and in males was 68.76 before and 60.83 after treatment. The results of study confirm that IKMS expresses the difference in clinical- metabolic situation in observed patients and gives complex assessment of condition in patients with DM type 2.

THE INFLUENCE OF LAZER ON THE FORMED ELEMENTS OF THE BLOOD

J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2009, 2, pp. 61-64.

Tbilisi State Medical University, Georgia

Extracorporeal method of irradiation using laser appears to be a method of ,,shock”  therapy promoting an increase of the protective function of the cell, in particular, erythrocyte. Such significant elements as homeostasis, compensatory-adaptation mechanisms etc. represent the fundament of, ,,shock” therapy. In response to the impact blood cells show their properties directed to the intensification of defense functions of the organism.

Object of the research was to study changes of shape of erythrocytes. Studies have been done in 9 groups of chinchilla rabbits.

Based on the results, we can assume that extracorporeal method of irradiation using laser, causes changes of shape of erythrocytes, in particular, increases the number of the normocytes.

surgical treatment of plural metastatic

abscesses of the brain

J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2009, 2, pp. 64-68.

Department of Neurosurgery, Azerbaijan Medical University, Baku

This article is written on the basis of the analysis results of the surgical treatment of 56 patients and their case-histories for the period of 1985-2007. First the patients received a 3-5-day conservative treatment and then they were operated. The following methods were applied during the operations:

1. Paracentetic method – (26 patients; complete removal along with its capsule – 7 patients).

2.  Paracentesis of the abscess and its complete removal – 9 patients; autopsy of the capsule and its external drainage – 14 patients.

3. Paracentesis of the abscess cavity and its outer drainage was not applied to the heaviest patients; 13 patients died (26%).

Resume: 1. Conservative treatment before surgery positively influences the general condition.

2. For the improvement of surgery results, plural abscesses, irrespective of their location and number, should be removed simultaneously.

3. The method of abscess paracentesis and drainage is less traumatic and rather expedient for the treatment of plural abscesses.

ADULT RESPIRATORY DISTRESS SYNDROME AND SPECIALITY OF TREATMENT

J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2009, 2, pp. 68-71.

Tbilisi State Medical University, Georgia

Increasing the percentage of inspiratory time during mechanical ventilation ( inverse inspiratory-expiratory I/E ventilation) is frequently used to improve oxygenation in patients with adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS); however, an optimal I/E ratio is unknown.

To assess for an optimal I/E ratio, hemodinamic, ventilatory and oxygenation parameters were determined in eight patients with ARDS supported with pressure-control ventilation. I/E ratios were changed between 1:1 and 2:1. Measurements were determined 40 minutes after each change in the I/E ratio. Increasing the percentage of inspiratory time resulted in insignificant increase in arterial oxygenation and progressive decrease of PCO2. There was no demonstrable changes in hemodynamics. Our findigs demonstrate the effectivness of increasing inspiratory time to improve oxygenation, yet to the detriment of ventilation. I/E ratio is balance between oxygen demands and ventilatory requirements.

THE EFFECT OF ENALAPRIL ON MYOCARDIAL CONTRACTILITY OF THE LEFT VENTRICLE IN CHILDREN AFTER ACUTE RHEUMATIC FEVER WITH MITRAL INSUFFICIENCY

J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2009, 2, pp. 71-74.

Department of Propaedeutics of Children’s Diseases, Azerbaijan Medical University, Baku

Our purpose was to study the effect of enalapril on myocardial contractility of the left ventricle in schoolchildren after acute rheumatic fever.

We investigated 25 schoolchildren with ARF and degree II mitral insufficiency and 20 practically healthy children of the same age. General examination, ECG, M- and B- regime EchoCG were carried out, and functional parameters of the heart were investigated. The patients were divided into 2 groups: 12 children received basic antirheumatic therapy, and the other 13 patients underwent basic therapy with the introduction of enalapril. The patients were repeatedly examined for 6-12 months after the treatment.

The analysis results have demonstrated that patients with ARF are characterized by a significant decrease in the function of the left ventricular contractility. Enalapril (0.05 mg/kg/day) once in 2 days for 6-12 months improves parameters characteristic of the functional state of the left ventricle, and is safe for patients with acute rheumatic fever.

Androgenic alopecia in females in premenopause period and possibilities of mesotherapy as a main method of treatment

J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2009, 2, pp. 74-78.

Tbilisi State Medical University, Dermato-Venerology Department;

Center of Dermatology and Aesthetic Medicine  “Marjani 21”, Georgia

Differential diagnosis of andogenic  hair loss in females  and it’s treatment remains a challenge in dermatology. The aim of the study was to evaluate the value of scalp visualization technique, trichoscopy, ratio of estradiol to free testosterone that might be responsible for triggering female pattern hair loss and to consider the possibility of mesotherapy with trace elements , antioxydants and L-carnitine in treatment.

In the trial were examined and observed 42 females in pre-manopause (40-48) with androgenic alopecia. All of them have developed thin hairs in fromtal area, increased number of yellow dots, increased frontal area to occiput ratio of single-hair units and follicles with perifollicular discoloration.

Absolute level of androgens in patients and control group was similar, i.e. normal levels, but the mean ratio of estradiol to free testosterone (E2/fT) in patients was almost three-times lower than in controls and the mean ratio of estradiol to DHEAS in balding women was less than a half of the value in healthy controls.  All patients were successfully treated with mesotherapy using trace elements, antioxidants, L-carnitine. The late fates (ater one year) proof that such approach in therapy is effective and might be recommended for a wide use.

STUDY OF INTERFERONOGENIC ACTIVITY OF VARIOUS IFNg  INDUCTORS

J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2009, 2, pp. 78-79.

I.Gogebashvili Telavi State University, Georgia

Leukocytes turned out to have the skill to produce interferon while induced by viral and nonviral agents, phytohemagglutinin and other mitogens, bacterial and viral antigens, endotoxins, and some other substances of microbial origin.

Immune interferon is produced by proliferating lymphocytes in the culture of leukocytes treated with mitogens of immune organisms or with lymphocytes responding to special viral and bacterial antigens.

The goal of the research was a comparative study of the interferonogenic activity of some inductors of immune interferon. It turned out, that the greatest interferonogenic activity has staphylococcus protein A.
